3 Smoothie Recipes You Have to Try This Summer

Isn’t it great when summer finally rolls around? The sun wakes up long before you do, bathing you in its golden glow first thing in the morning. It’s pure bliss. And, what better way to complement these perfect mornings than by sipping a freshly made smoothie to the sound of birdsong.

Summer basically begs us to treat ourselves to smoothies. The cool, refreshing blend of your favourite ingredient, mixed with natural yoghurt or even ice cream if you’re feeling naughty, simply slips down your throat and gets you feeling pumped for the day ahead of you.

Not only do smoothies taste great, but they are also a healthy and nutritious way to start your day – depending on what you put in them of course. They fill you up so you avoid the temptation of pre-lunch snacks and they leave you feeling energised and ready to get work.

If you’re feeling particularly organised, you can even blend up your favourite recipe and take your smoothie to work with you in an on-the-go blending bottle.

Have I made your mouth water yet? Here are some of my favourite smoothie recipes that will go down a treat this summer.

Mango and Spinach Smoothie

The nice thing about this smoothie, other than its taste of course, is that it will make your skin glow. Mango is a good source of beta carotene, which has been proven to reduce the effect of sun damage on the skin. For this smoothie you will need milk (normal, soy or coconut will do), a ripe mango, one banana, natural yoghurt, honey and a big fistful of spinach. Blend up all the ingredients together until the drink is smooth and enjoy. It couldn't be simpler. And, don't worry, you can’t taste the spinach, it is just there to give you a healthy boost.

Kiwi and Mint Smoothie

Kiwi is such an under-rated fruit and that is a real shame because just one kiwi can fill you with all the vitamin C you need in a day. Put this fruit to good use by blending it up into a super smoothie, perfect for a summer’s morning. Blend together almond milk, a kiwi, one banana, a cup of spinach and a cup of mint leaves. Keep blending the mixture until smooth. Then add a quarter of a cup of Greek yoghurt and some ice cubes and blend again. The ice gives it a frosty finish that will cool you down and refresh you.

Orange Sunrise Smoothie

Oranges are packed with vitamin C, which leaves you with a glowing and radiant complexion, provided it is freshly squeezed and free from additives. Grab yourself two large oranges and squeeze as much juice as you can out of them. You should end up with about one cup of juice. If you don’t, grab another and keep squeezing! When you’re done, pour the juice into the blender with some pineapple chunks and a frozen banana. The frozen banana will cool down your drink as well as contribute to the overall flavour. Blend everything up, pour it in
